The role
We are seeking a Senior Applied Scientist to join our Trust and Safety team on a full-time basis. This is a remote position open to candidates located anywhere. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining a secure marketplace by utilizing machine learning to prevent fraud and policy violations. This position is ideal for an experienced professional who is passionate about scaling detection capabilities and ensuring a safe, reliable experience for our customers and service professionals.
Core responsibilities
- Initiate and lead applied science projects that enhance platform security, specifically focusing on improving spam detection, fraud mitigation, and policy enforcement.
- Architect, deploy, and maintain machine learning systems within a production environment to proactively address platform threats.
- Design and execute rigorous experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of new models, ensuring a balance between rapid execution and scientific precision.
Skills and experience
To thrive in this role, you should possess a strong background in engineering and data science. We are looking for the following qualifications:
- Expert-level knowledge of machine learning, including classification, anomaly detection, and natural language processing (NLP).
- Proficiency in Python with the ability to write, read, and debug complex code.
- A solid foundation in statistics, including causal inference, optimization, and experimental design.
- Proven experience in driving technical roadmaps and the ability to communicate complex concepts to cross-functional partners.
- A demonstrated ability to solve intricate problems by weighing necessary trade-offs to deliver high-impact results.
Compensation and benefits
We offer a competitive salary range based on your location:
- For candidates in the San Francisco/Bay Area, San Jose, New York City, or Seattle metros: $179,600 - $219,500.
- For candidates in Austin, TX, Washington DC, or the states of California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, or Washington: $161,600 - $197,600.
- For candidates in all other U.S. locations: $152,600 - $186,600.
In addition to your salary, you will enjoy the flexibility of remote work.
