Crossing Minds is an artificial intelligence firm established in 2017 by a group of distinguished researchers, including Alexandre Robicquet, Dr. Emile Contal, and Google X founder Dr. Sebastian Thrun. Our mission is to bridge the gap between academic research and practical, user-friendly products. We are proud to be the only AI recommendation system supported by Shopify, and we serve a diverse range of clients such as Chanel, Brut, Camp, and Reelgood. With a dedicated team of 30 professionals across our offices in San Francisco, Paris, and Toronto, we are currently entering an exciting new phase of growth. We are looking for an Applied Machine Learning Intern to join our team in Paris for a full-time position.
Key outcomes
- Collaborate with our engineering team to maximize the impact of recommender systems for our clients.
- Address complex machine learning challenges by conducting data exploration, training sophisticated models, and delivering high-quality recommendations.
- Contribute to the success of our customers while helping millions of users discover content that aligns with their personal preferences.
- Participate in the continuous improvement of our core recommendation platform by analyzing unique datasets and refining our technology stack.
Requirements
- Strong proficiency in Python, including the NumPy and Pandas libraries.
- A data-driven mindset with the ability to perform feature extraction, visualization, and model tuning.
- A solid understanding of machine learning fundamentals, such as gradient descent, regularization, objective functions, optimization, and the curse of dimensionality.
- Experience with feature engineering techniques, including pre-processing, tokenization, and the use of pre-trained embeddings.
- Full professional proficiency in English, as it is our primary language for all internal and external communication.
Preferred qualifications
- Prior experience with recommender systems, whether through academic coursework, personal projects, or previous internships.
- Familiarity with professional software development workflows, such as using git, applying design patterns, and working within large codebases.
- Previous experience in a professional machine learning engineering role.
- Experience working in roles that involve direct interaction with customers.
