Applied Machine Learning Engineer Intern at Crossing Minds

We are Crossing Minds, an artificial intelligence firm established in 2017 by industry pioneers Alexandre Robicquet, Dr. Emile Contal, and Google X founder Dr. Sebastian Thrun. Our mission is to move advanced machine learning out of academia and into practical, safe products that serve everyone. With $10 million in funding and backing from Shopify, we support a diverse range of clients including Chanel, Brut, and Camp. We are currently looking for an Applied Machine Learning Engineer Intern to join our team of 30 in our Paris office for a full-time, on-site position.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with our engineering team to maximize the value of our recommender systems for our clients.
• Solve complex machine learning challenges by exploring diverse datasets and training effective models.
• Deliver high-quality recommendations that improve the discovery experience for millions of users worldwide.
• Contribute to the ongoing evolution of our core platform by refining our tech stack based on unique customer data and model performance.

Must-haves

• Strong proficiency in Python, NumPy, and Pandas.
• A data-oriented approach to problem-solving, including experience with data exploration, visualization, feature extraction, and model tuning.
• A solid understanding of machine learning fundamentals, such as objective functions, regularization, gradient descent, optimization techniques, and the curse of dimensionality.
• Experience with ML feature engineering, including tokenization, pre-processing, aggregation, and the use of pre-trained embeddings.
• Fluency in English, as it is our primary language for all written and spoken communication.

Nice-to-haves

• Prior experience with recommender systems gained through personal projects, coursework, or previous internships.
• Familiarity with professional software development practices, such as using Git, applying design patterns, and contributing to large codebases.
• Previous experience working in a professional machine learning engineering role.
• Experience in roles that involve direct customer interaction.
