Rothesay is the UK's leading pensions insurance specialist, managing over £70 billion in assets to secure the futures of more than one million people. We are looking for a Senior Application Support Engineer to join our team in the United Kingdom on a full-time, on-site basis to help maintain and modernize our critical technology infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert first and second-line support for our in-house applications used by trading, operations, quant, and pricing teams.
- Monitor system performance proactively to ensure high availability and resolve technical issues as they occur.
- Collaborate with developers to debug applications, fix issues, and implement functional improvements.
- Build automation tools to increase operational efficiency and prevent recurring system problems.
- Manage and optimize complex batch job processes to ensure all service level agreements are met.
- Lead incident management and perform root cause analysis from initial report through to final resolution.
- Partner with stakeholders to deliver technical solutions that address specific business challenges.
- Oversee the transition of new applications into production, ensuring all documentation and support guides are complete.
Must-haves
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in production or application support, ideally within the financial services sector.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
- Strong proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Shell, or PowerShell.
- Solid experience with Linux/Unix environments and troubleshooting REST APIs.
- Ability to query and investigate database issues using MSSQL or PostgreSQL.
- Practical experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines.
- Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to debug code and read stack traces.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
- A proactive, client-focused mindset and meticulous attention to detail.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with cloud environments, specifically AWS or Azure.
- Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools like ELK or Grafana.
- Prior experience working directly with traders or quantitative analysts.
- Knowledge of fixed income, fixed income derivatives, or the pensions industry.
