Application Engineer at Away

The opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Application Engineer to join our Technology team and help shape the storefront, theme extensions, and point-of-sale tools that power Away’s direct connection with customers. In this role you will keep our Shopify platform running smoothly while partnering with Product, Brand, and Growth Marketing to launch new features that support a growing global business. Your work will sit at the center of how travelers discover, customize, and purchase the gear they need for their next trip.

A day in the life

• You will update and refine Away’s Shopify theme with Liquid, making thoughtful design and feature changes that keep the storefront fast, on-brand, and easy for customers to navigate.
• You will develop and maintain internal Shopify apps built with Node.js and Remix, adding capabilities for promotions, bundling, and checkout flows that directly support the retail and marketing teams.
• You will investigate and resolve issues across the storefront and POS integrations, write reliable webhooks, and use AI-assisted tools to speed up testing and documentation so the whole system stays resilient as we scale.

Who you are

You bring at least three years of professional software engineering experience, including a year or more working directly with Shopify. You are comfortable writing Liquid, building theme customizations, and extending the platform through Storefront API and Theme App Extensions. Your JavaScript and TypeScript skills are strong, and you have used React along with modern front-end tooling to ship production code. You have built or supported Shopify apps with Node.js and Remix, and you understand how REST and GraphQL APIs exchange data. You are excited to weave AI-powered coding tools into your daily workflow, and you approach problems methodically, knowing when to solve independently and when to loop in senior engineers. Clear communication comes naturally to you, whether you are reviewing code with peers or explaining a technical choice to colleagues on the Brand or Growth teams. Bonus points if you have worked with Shopify Markets, e-commerce analytics stacks, cloud platforms such as Vercel or AWS, or Shopify POS extensions.
