At Merit America, we are on a mission to break the cycle of poverty by creating pathways to family-sustaining careers for working adults. We recognize that the current economy leaves millions of talented people stuck in low-wage roles, so we analyze job market data to identify high-paying tech careers and provide flexible, supported training programs. Since our founding in 2018, we have helped generate a projected $1 billion in wage gains for our learners. We are a national nonprofit dedicated to building a scalable route to the middle class through merit, and we invite you to join our team as we continue to foster upward mobility.
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Analytics Engineer to join us in a full-time, remote capacity. In this role, you will own our analytics platform and be responsible for the data models, semantic layers, and reporting standards that drive our organizational decision-making. You will act as the primary steward of our data, ensuring that our systems are trustworthy, scalable, and easy for our teams to use. You will report to the Head of Data and Technology while collaborating closely with stakeholders across Finance, Operations, Growth, and Program teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of our dbt models to transform raw data into durable, reporting-ready tables while reducing duplication and improving documentation.
- Manage our semantic layer to ensure core business metrics are defined consistently and remain accessible for self-service reporting.
- Implement robust data observability, testing, and monitoring frameworks to proactively identify and resolve quality issues across our stack.
Requirements
We believe in the value of diverse perspectives and encourage you to apply even if you do not meet every single qualification. We are looking for candidates who possess the following:
- At least 4 years of experience working with SQL and modern cloud data warehouses.
- Strong hands-on expertise with dbt and a demonstrated history of building canonical data models.
- Experience working with a semantic layer or governed BI environment, such as Lightdash or LookML.
- A proactive mindset regarding data governance, version control, and code review processes.
- Comfort experimenting with AI tools to enhance technical workflows while maintaining high standards for data privacy and quality.
- A deep commitment to our mission of closing opportunity gaps and fostering an inclusive workplace culture.
Location
This position is remote. Candidates must reside within the 50 United States or the District of Columbia and possess full authorization to work in the U.S.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary for this position is $152,000. We are proud to offer a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your well-being and professional growth, including:
- A 4-day workweek.
- 100% paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees.
- Unlimited vacation time following a 90-day introductory period.
- 401(k) retirement plan with automatic contributions from Merit America.
- Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Savings Accounts.
- Stipends for home office setup and technology needs.
- Professional development resources, including tuition reimbursement and a catalog of learning courses.
- Disability insurance and paid parental leave.
