At Gridmatic, we are on a mission to speed up the global transition to clean energy. We operate at the intersection of data science, machine learning, and complex power markets. As a profitable, bootstrap-funded startup with a presence in the Bay Area and Houston, we pride ourselves on a culture that balances intellectual rigor with the agility of a fast-moving engineering team. We believe in the power of academic curiosity, and we are looking for people who value integrity and excellence as much as we do.
The opportunity
We are seeking a Senior AI Research Scientist to join our team on a full-time basis. In this role, you will push the boundaries of our technology to help decarbonize the electricity system. You will bridge the gap between theoretical research and practical application, designing solutions for existing market challenges while exploring entirely new problems. This position is perfect for someone who wants to contribute to the academic community through publications while building real-world tools that impact the energy sector.
A day in the life
- You will design, perform, and analyze experiments using cutting-edge machine learning techniques to solve complex problems within the energy space.
- You will keep a close eye on the latest research developments, evaluating how new methods in generative modeling, forecasting, and decision-making under uncertainty can be applied to our frameworks.
- You will write, optimize, and review high-quality code in Python, ensuring that our models are both performant and readable for the rest of the engineering team.
Who you are
You are a researcher at heart with a deep understanding of mathematics, probability, and statistics. You thrive in environments that require constant learning and are eager to apply your expertise to the energy industry.
- You hold a PhD in machine learning, statistics, or a related quantitative field.
- You have a strong track record of publications in top-tier venues like NeurIPS, ICLR, or ICML, or significant work in forecasting and probabilistic models.
- You are highly proficient in Python and comfortable using frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and scikit-learn.
- You possess excellent communication skills and a passion for mentoring others.
- You are fluent in English and ready to work in a collaborative, hybrid environment.
Why you'll love it here
We offer a supportive and intellectually stimulating environment where you can grow your career while making a tangible impact on the environment. We value the energy that comes from face-to-face collaboration, so we maintain a hybrid work policy where team members spend about 50 percent of their time in our Cupertino office. Our interview process is designed to be thorough and transparent, consisting of initial conversations, a practical take-home skills assessment, and an onsite visit to meet the team.
