Gridmatic Inc. is a rapidly growing startup based in the Bay Area and Houston, and we are dedicated to accelerating the transition to clean energy. We leverage our deep expertise in data, machine learning, and energy to transform power markets. We are proud to be a rare startup that has achieved profitability over multiple years without relying on venture capital. Our culture is built on teamwork, continuous learning, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion. We operate with an academic, data-driven mindset, moving quickly to solve complex problems while maintaining a strong focus on integrity and excellence. We would love for you to join us in our mission to decarbonize the electricity system.
What you'll be doing
- You will research and apply cutting-edge machine learning techniques to solve complex challenges within the energy sector, while also designing new solutions for problems we have yet to address.
- You will generalize your findings into unified frameworks and author research papers to share your insights with the broader academic community.
- You will promote statistical rigor across our team, mentor colleagues, and write high-quality, optimized code to support our forecasting and decision-making models.
What you'll bring
To be successful in this role, you should possess a strong foundation in both research and practical application. We are looking for the following qualifications:
- A PhD in machine learning, statistics, or a related quantitative field.
- A proven track record of publications in venues such as NeurIPS, ICLR, or ICML, or significant work in forecasting and probabilistic modeling.
- Deep expertise in mathematics, probability, algorithms, and statistical testing.
- Strong proficiency in Python and experience with machine learning frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, and scikit-learn.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, along with a genuine enthusiasm for learning new concepts in engineering, economics, and electricity markets.
- Fluency in English.
What you'll get
We believe in the power of collaboration, and we support a hybrid work environment to foster innovation. You will have the opportunity to work alongside a talented team in our Cupertino office, where we maintain a policy of being in-person for approximately 50 percent of the time.
Our interview process is designed to be thorough and transparent. It begins with a couple of conversations to discuss your background and our company culture. This is followed by a skills assessment involving a take-home project, and if that goes well, we will invite you to our office to meet the team in person.
