AI Engineer at Rye

We are Rye, a seed-stage startup founded by an exceptional team that includes the co-founder of Twitch along with experienced leaders from Reddit and Goldman Sachs. Over the past few years, we have built powerful APIs that connect with major marketplaces like Shopify and Amazon. Now, we are evolving those tools to enable AI agents to handle native transactions directly within their own flows. Whether it is an interactive prompt like ChatGPT or an autonomous backend workflow, we are making every product online instantly purchasable. We are looking for a Senior AI Engineer to join our remote-first team and help us build the future of agentic commerce.

What you'll be doing

• You will design and maintain a sophisticated browser agent that uses advanced automation to handle checkout processes across a wide variety of ecommerce platforms.
• You will lead the development and fine-tuning of specialized models focused on ensuring reliable, secure, and repeatable transaction workflows.
• You will architect the core infrastructure that powers our agentic solutions, while coordinating features across systems and maintaining a fast, one-week sprint cycle.

What you'll bring

To succeed in this role, you should have at least four years of professional experience in backend or AI engineering. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate the following:

• Proven expertise in building applications powered by LLMs or NLP.
• A deep understanding of technical concepts such as fine-tuning, multi-step reasoning, semantic extraction, and machine translation.
• Strong proficiency in Python and a solid grasp of software development best practices.
• Experience designing effective evaluation frameworks and building tight, iterative experiment loops.
• A thorough understanding of browser internals and modern automation techniques.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and work independently in a remote environment.
• Bonus points if you have experience with fraud detection in the ecommerce space.
