NoRedInk helps students in more than 60 percent of U.S. school districts become stronger writers. Our adaptive curriculum personalizes exercises to each student’s interests, guides them through the writing process, and delivers targeted practice that has already powered more than 10 billion exercises. We are looking for teammates who share our conviction that clear writing is a foundational skill and who want to use technology to give every student the chance to master it.
The role
We are hiring a Senior AI Engineer to join us full time in a fully remote position. You will sit on a cross-functional product squad that ships features powered by large language models and other machine-learning techniques, all aimed at making it easier for teachers to assign and assess authentic writing work.
Core responsibilities
- Design, fine-tune, and productionize LLM-powered capabilities-such as intelligent feedback, automated grading support, and adaptive prompts-while measuring accuracy, cost, and reliability.
- Integrate these models into our existing AWS-hosted SaaS platform, collaborating with product managers, designers, and other engineers to keep systems scalable, observable, and secure.
- Track emerging AI methods, run experiments, and turn promising research into practical tools that directly improve the experience for millions of students and teachers.
Skills and experience
- At least four years of professional experience building and operating production systems that use machine-learning models, with a clear focus on scalability, security, and privacy.
- At least one year of hands-on work deploying large language models in production environments, including prompt engineering, fine-tuning, and retrieval-augmented generation.
- Strong working knowledge of NLP, deep learning, supervised learning, and generative AI techniques.
- Proficiency with LangChain, TensorFlow, Keras, and similar frameworks; comfort with Python and Ruby; and an interest in functional languages such as Elm or Haskell.
- Experience shipping SaaS products on AWS and familiarity with MLOps, data pipelines, and model-management tooling.
- Fluency in English and excitement about collaborating with teammates to advance our mission of building better writers.
Compensation and benefits
The salary range for this role is $135,000 to $185,000 USD. In addition, we offer equity, comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage for U.S. employees, a 401(k) plan, flexible paid time off, paid parental leave, an annual professional-development budget, LinkedIn Learning access, home-office and co-working stipends, and periodic team retreats.
How to apply
If this description resonates with you, we encourage you to apply. During the first conversation with our recruiting team we will discuss compensation openly so both sides can decide if there is a fit. We review applications on a rolling basis and look forward to learning how your background could help millions of students write with greater confidence.
