Imagine a place where more than one hundred software companies, each serving its own specialized industry, come together under one permanent home. At Banyan Software we acquire, build, and grow these businesses for the long term, bringing shared AI expertise and disciplined operations to every portfolio company. Our Foundation, backed by a $100 million endowment in Banyan stock, channels technology toward a greener and more equitable world, and our track record-Great Place to Work Certified, five-time Inc. 5000 honoree, top-ten Deloitte Technology Fast 500-shows what disciplined growth can achieve.
The opportunity
We are building the AI Factory, a centralized modernization engine that rewrites aging codebases into cloud-native, mobile-first SaaS platforms in weeks instead of years. As Director of AI you will guide this program from strategy through delivery, shaping how our entire portfolio evolves. Reporting to the VP of Engineering and leading Forward Deployed Engineers plus a Project Manager, you will define the role’s scope, set its direction, and see the impact ripple across North America, the UK, EU, and APAC.
A day in the life
- You might start the morning reviewing live modernization metrics with an operating-company CEO, translating velocity gains and risk reductions into clear business outcomes before joining the AI Factory product team to refine the next phase of our nine-stage delivery process.
- Midday could find you embedded with an operating-company engineering group, pairing with developers on AI-assisted refactoring, coaching them through new workflows, and capturing lessons that feed straight back into our tooling and playbooks.
- In the afternoon you might finalize the hiring plan for the next Forward Deployed Engineer, update the engagement model that keeps every modernization on track, and prepare an executive briefing that aligns Banyan leadership on the roadmap and investment priorities ahead.
Who you are
You bring ten or more years of software-engineering experience, at least three of which combine hands-on technical delivery with program leadership. You have guided application-modernization or digital-transformation initiatives, ideally across multiple products or companies, and you still write production code, architect cloud-native solutions, and stand up CI/CD pipelines daily. Deep familiarity with AWS or Azure, infrastructure-as-code, microservices, and DevSecOps lets you describe a migration from end to end-what worked, what broke, and how you fixed it. You have built teams, processes, and playbooks from scratch in fast-moving environments and can present complex technical trade-offs to C-level stakeholders with clarity and confidence. Experience with forward-deployed engineering, private-equity portfolio operations, or AI-assisted development tools is welcomed but not required. English fluency is essential, and you thrive in a fully remote setting with at least four hours of overlap with U.S. Eastern time.
Why you'll love it here
The expected base salary for this position is $250,000–$300,000 USD, excluding annual bonus and equity. In addition to competitive pay, we offer the freedom of remote work and meaningful equity participation that aligns your success with the long-term growth of more than one hundred operating companies. You will join a certified Great Place to Work where operational discipline and shared AI expertise turn ambitious modernization goals into delivered platforms every fifteen to twenty-five weeks.
