AI / Data Science Lead at Block Renovation

Block is a renovation platform transforming the $450 billion renovation industry. We serve customers coast to coast with our technology platform and contractor network, applying the latest advances in data science and AI to help users design their spaces and manage their projects. We are seeking an entrepreneurial data scientist to lead our applied AI and ML efforts that power our most innovative products. This full-time role reports directly to the Chief Product Officer and works closely with product, engineering, and operations teams to improve existing features and launch new products from the ground up.

Key outcomes

• Lead Block’s data science and AI efforts as the primary subject matter expert.
• Direct model and prompt design, evaluation, and optimization, including the use of third-party AI models and the development of proprietary models over time.
• Partner with product, design, and software engineering colleagues to build and launch user-facing products that harness our AI and ML capabilities.
• Collaborate with leadership to translate business goals into technical solutions.
• Support our AI and LLM Ops infrastructure to enable research, development, deployment, and scaling efforts.
• Inform and advise on our data strategy and the implementation of our data layer to collect actionable data.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Applied Data Science, or a related technical or scientific field.
• At least four years of data science experience building, deploying, and optimizing models in production.
• Experience defining processes and ML Ops best practices for deploying, improving, and scaling models in production.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional leadership.
• Comfort with ambiguity paired with a desire to dream big and invent.
• Proficiency in English.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience in early-stage product development, building systems and teams from the ground up.
• Industry experience in construction, home improvement, or home services.

Compensation

The initial annual salary for this position is expected to range from $170,000 to $200,000. Actual compensation will depend on experience, knowledge and skills, qualifications, location, and other job-related factors.
