AI / Data Science Lead at Block Renovation

Block is a renovation platform reshaping the $450 billion home renovation industry by connecting homeowners with contractors through a technology-driven network. Our platform already serves customers across the country, and we are applying advanced data science and AI to help people design the spaces they want while giving contractors the tools to run stronger businesses. We are looking for an entrepreneurial AI and Data Science Lead to join us full time in a hybrid capacity and guide the applied machine learning work that powers our most forward-looking products.

Responsibilities

• Lead Block’s data science and AI initiatives as the primary subject matter expert, guiding model and prompt design, evaluation, and optimization across both third-party and proprietary systems.
• Partner with product, design, and engineering teams to translate business objectives into technical solutions and launch user-facing products that leverage our AI and ML capabilities.
• Help shape our data strategy and strengthen our ML Ops infrastructure so research, development, deployment, and scaling efforts remain reliable and efficient.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Applied Data Science, or a related technical or scientific field.
• At least four years of hands-on data science experience building, deploying, and optimizing production models.
• Proven ability to define processes and apply ML Ops best practices that support reliable deployment, continuous improvement, and scaling of models.
• Strong communication skills and a track record of effective collaboration with cross-functional leadership.
• Comfort working in ambiguous environments and an interest in early-stage product development where systems and teams are built from the ground up.
