We are looking for a Senior AI Agent Engineer to join our team full time on-site in the United States. At Luma we build creative tools that use AI Agents as collaborative partners, helping people explore ideas across many topics with imagination and curiosity. In this role you will lead the agent workstream and shape how large language models and visual models power new capabilities such as tool use, reasoning, real-time knowledge, intent understanding, and long-term memory.
Responsibilities
- Own the development of the AI Agent and the role of LLMs inside our main product, taking a creative approach to the new functionality these agents can unlock for users.
- Collaborate with design and product engineering teams to align the agent’s tone and behavior with the experience Luma aims to deliver.
- Partner with product and infrastructure teams to design systems that scale to millions of users while maintaining extremely low latency, and work with the applied research team to integrate new generative AI features such as controllability and editability into agent workflows.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience building production-level or MVP projects with LLMs and agents, including testing and extending their capabilities beyond standard use cases.
- At least five years of engineering experience across product-driven technology environments, with prior work in startup settings as a founder or early engineer.
- Strong Python skills and a deep understanding of end-to-end backend systems and databases.
- Fluency in English.
What we offer
The pay range for this position in California is $200,000 - $300,000 per year. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, candidate location, and experience. We also offer competitive equity packages in the form of stock options and a comprehensive benefits plan.
